2000 Yamaha Warrior doesn't have spark

All - I've read through these forums and have found some useful info...which is good since I just got my first quad which is a 2000 warrior. It had been running great for the first 2 weekends, then it stalled out a couple of times and then finally wouldn't start at all. I replaced the plug but found that it wasn't getting a spark. I read here that it could be anything from a coil to a stator to a cdi, etc. I thought instead of replacing each one by one until i guessed right, i'd take it to a yamaha shop for a diagnosis. Well, it came back and i'm having a tough time believing it, so i thought i'd throw it out to you. They said that i needed a new cdi, a new stator AND a new coil. Seriously? they can all go out at once like that? Or are they basically just guessing? they want to charge 1100 in parts and 400 in labor. I bought the quad for 1000. I love this bike - but am afraid i'm getting ripped off. $1500 is not an option at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

go to ebay & pick up a used stator, this is most likely your problem, You could buy all 3 used for less than $200 bucks on ebay, thats what i would do.

you can test the ign coil and ohms test the stator yourself, stators crap out pretty commonly on warriors i would not get a used stator...it would die on you in like a few months if you got a used one, get an RM stator for like 150 bucks and it will last a long time and have a warranty, the ign coils are like maybe 60 bucks, but if i were you i would test the stator first of all and then if need be test the ign coil and try to borrow a CDI from somebody to see if the CDI is bad.

I Cant stress this to you enough, I just went through it myself. I found my problem after replacing the Cdi, and stator. It was a spot in the wire harness that re the tapeubbed on the frame and grounded out a wire. Remove all your plastic, loosen all the straps/ ties that hold the wiring harness anywhere there are any signs of damage to the black tape remove the tape and inspect thourghly ( Ahook blade in a utility knife works well to remove the tape) you may save 2000 by the time you spend 1500 for them to replace these items and figure out that its a wire they should have looked for before going to that extreme. <br>
I hope this Helps you!
