SO, I let my valves get WAY out of specs and what tipped me off is that the quad became VERY hard to start. Now it just won't start so I got to taking things apart and found out that the valves are about 3 times out of specs. Like .015-.02 when the clearance is supposed to be .003-.005
My question is, what sort of damage should I inspect for and what problems could this have caused? I am new to this sort of thing. Is there a chance that if I adjust them back to specs that when I bolt it all back together things will be fine? (and it will start )

Depending on what model you have,you should have plug to take off on the stator side so you can turn and line up TDC mark (easier with plug out). If its just the lock nut adjuster type, one you have it tdc just loosen lock nuts and adjust with feeler blades. If it's a shim under bucket type you have to have a valve depressing tool to remove the bucket and shim and replace with correct size shim or on machines some you have to remove the cam. Shouldn't have hurt anything,if any thing would be making a loud ticking noise if you got it started! OPT

Loose = more lash, or gap. Just make sure you have slight resistance on your feeler gauge. It is better to be loose than not having any clearance. I would also try premium gas,especially in the winter,
