Hey there guys,
Ive had my Raptor for a while now since late fall of 2000.....It took a time out during winter but now that spring is coming back its starting to hit the trails again. So far ive done nothing but trail ride around our property. But im just wondering from some others that are out there any tips or advice for jumping the Raptor? Im not talking about anything big ive found a few places that look like fun. Ive done an MX with my Wolverine in the Utility class.....Basically the same thing applies? Just curious! Thanks guys! Be carefull when you jump the Raptor..the front end comes right up..also leave the gas on longer then you usually do on a 2 stroke...the 4 strokes have compression braking and it immediatly slows your engine down as oona syou get off the gas. REMEMBER Practice on small stuff first before you go for anything BIG..don't want to see you spending any time laid out in the white building with the pretty little nurses..

I think they are done best in 2nd or 3rd gear and not 1st.

Thanks guys.....I think ill just do what I was going to initially. Start small. I mean im not thinking of really even going big but still its fun to let the 4 tires get off the ground once and a while. The only reason I asked this question was because I was out tooling around this weekend and came to small little slope while I was running at a good clip and got a SMALL amount of air but it felt a little awkward and I was just wondering if maybe there was a quirk. After I posted I was rethinking how I was riding and I beleive I was sitting pretty far forward and that may have been why the air didnt feel "natural" Then again im comparing the way my Wolverine reacts to the same slope......Which is a whole different machine. Paractice will fix it im sure. Thanks though guys!

Foxrunner....I usually hit small and medium sized jumps while riding. I have found that being in the "attack" stance, getting off the throttle at the last second, getting my tail end back, and extending my arms allows for a very smooth jump with a 4-wheel landing. Never unpredictible. If I only stand up only before hitting the jump...the front end drops.

start small and work your way up youll do fine raptor flies pretty well really lands even better

My technique for jumping is to stand up and get a good balance with the throttle right before the jump. You should be under the powerband (although the Raptor powerband must be pretty huge compared to a shee) and just a little should get you a good balanced jump.
Start small until you feel your bike and know what's gonna happen. I can feel that on my sled and not scared too much to go for stupid stuff, caus' I know I'm gonna land it right (or so). On the quad, I don't remember (snow is here since december!!). |
When I had me 'shee, I always jumped it when I was just in the powerband. It gave me tha power to goose it at the top of the jump to hold the front end up. But with the raptor, 2nd gear works for most jumps, and be smooth on the throttle. Give it a little burp of power at the top of the jump. And remember, if you are nose high int he air, tap the rear brakes to bring the nose down. If you are nose low, gas it to brong the nose up! That really makes the landings smooth when all 4 tires touch at the same time.
