1993 Warrior Won't Start
 

Hey everyone! First post in a very long time for me. Glad to be back!

Anyway, I have a 1993 Yamaha Warrior that won't fire up. It was running fine for me about 1-2 months ago. The only modifications are a removed airbox and fitted with a K&N Air filter.

To get it going this time. I removed, drained, and thoroughly cleaned the carb, put in a brand new plug, and cleaned the filter. I am not very knowledgeable with the electrical portion of the quad as in the past I mostly dealt with 2stroke bikes. Anyway, I was doing a little snooping around and brought out the voltage meter to check a few things. Attached is a video of me holding the voltmeter against the battery terminals while trying to start the quad.

You will notice a significant fluctuation during the starting cycle.

I am borrowing a compression tester from a buddy tomorrow so will let you know what that turns up. Thanks in advance for the help!

That battery needs charging or replaced. It barely turned the engine over. The compression should be fine if it was fine 2 months ago.

Is that much fluctuation in voltage normal then during the starting cycle?

Yeah well your voltage is low while idle. The battery should read like 13 - 14 volts while idle. Your engine should turn over faster than your was. But yeah the voltage should not drop that much during startup, it should stay up above 12 volts. It's your battery.

You could try this test: hook up some jumper cables from your Warriors battery to a good battery, a jump box, or car and measure your voltages then while you crank it.

SOLVED: The battery was at 11.77 Volts and would not fire. I charged the battery up to 12.61 Volts and it fired right up. No problems. Apparently that 1 extra volt was needed! Thanks for your help!
