broken headlight switch 88 yama moto 200

Hi all, I am new to the forum as a user and have a problem that some savy folks may be able to share their knowledge. Just bought an 88 yama moto 4 200dx and it is 'farm fresh', used by the original owner for chores around the yard. pretty nice shape, but one problem. one day while fencing , a fence post dropped on and cracked off the headlight switching toggle. so, now no light. the starter button still works, but there is no way to control the light. a complete replacement mechanism (including kill switch, start button, headlight switch) can be bought for 102$ from the local dealer, but to install i am not certain how to go about wiring it. has anyone tried this process before, or maybe somehow made a fix on a broken headlight switch?
looking forward to your help on this one, folks!

If I'm looking at the right part, its about $55 on cycle parts warehouse. Best advice I could give is to put it back the way it came off. If it wasn't a direct plug in harness and you actually had to connect wires together, I'm sure they're color coded to just match up. I had a 1985 YFS200 many moons ago (1985 to be exact). I can tell you this, be glad you got the 88. The 85 model had a rigid suspension. Meaning no shocks at all, and would beat your brains out. They upgraded to shocks on all four corners the following year.

Also, have you taken the switch assembly apart yet? And does a wiring harness connect to it, or are the controls all straight wires leading out of the housing?

You could rig up a universal toggle switch from autozone for real cheap - like $5 or you could do it right and try to find a used one on ebay. One off ebay should just bolt back up and plug into your wiring harness. If you find one off ebay you'll most likely have to buy the whole mechanism with the starter button and all, but you should be able to get one for $30 or less.
