Does Yamaha still make the Wolverine?

Some guys were saying it's not on their website anymore. I found it under their Sport section but when I clicked on it, it showed a 2010??? 2010 Yamaha Wolverine 450 Auto. 4X4 Home, information

They haven't made a Wolverine since 2005, that belt drive rebadged Kodiak with Raptor Plastic is NO Wolverine, in my book.

Stealth1991 04-25-2012 05:56 PM

Anyone know?

Hi Stealth, I am probably a little late with your answer but here I go. I have a 2009 Wolverine 450 and I think like Moose says, 2010 was the last year. Unfortunate because it is a nice trail machine. I put some armor on mine and some 25" mudlites and love it. Not sure why so many people hate the machine. I feel it merges sport/utility pretty well. It ain't perfect, as it is a hybrid, but it is a great trail quad.

I think it comes down to the chassis- dedicated 4x4's have an IRS to crawl over rough trails- and sport quads use the SRA- and sra's suck on rough trails.

An SRA really does not work well on a trail machine- the atv just wants to throw the rider over every bump. The scrambler has the same issue- they are just too rough to ride for any length of time especially compared to how much smoother the IRS is on a rough trail.

IMO- SRA's belong on sport quads where they are ridden over flatter terrain and dunes- and have no business on 4x4's hitting rough trails & deep mud. The worst 4x4 atv I've ever ridden was my 08 scrambler 500- it was heavy as hell with an SRA- just heavy & clumsy.

personally- I think the sport quads that pull of the "hybrid" the best are the honda xx and the polaris outlaw- both have IRS but not the heavy 4x4 equipment-
The renegade is in a league of its own, but you cant really call that a dedicated sport quad like the outlaw & xx.

It really does not work well both ways... in other words, putting an IRS on a sport quad for it to handle trails better works well, but throwing an SRA on a utility so it feels more like a sport quad just does not work well.

Beergut I do hear you and agree about the SRA. I don't ride much mud or rough trails so it hasn't been much of a problem. I mostly ride fairly smooth trails with some mud where I hit 4X4 when needed. On rough trails though the SRA does give you a workout! My 25" mudlites have helped out alot there. More cushion as the stock tires are really stiff. There is definitely no substitute for IRS.
