Titan 589's vs ITP 589 m/s ?? Same or no?

There is a big discussion on this at the hilghlifter.com tire forum. Basically, Titan is coming out with a new tire they call the 589 M/T. It is a 6 ply and has a new, more agressive tread design. My understanding is that Titan sold the molds to make the old 589 to ITP. I may be wrong, but I don't think Titan used a ply rating on the original 589, they used something like 4-star or something like that, which may have meant 6-ply, not sure on that. But, from what I understand, the ITP 589 m/s is basically the old 589, and the new Titan tire is going to be the 589 M/T. Someone correct me if I am wrong on any of this, but I think that is what's going on. Hope this helps.

This is quoted from a press release on the Titan Tire Corporate website dated April 17, 2000.
"Titan has decided to exit the lawn and garden and ATV original equipment manufacturer (OEM) wheel and tire business, concentrating instead on the aftermarket. The two companies have signed a five-year supply agreement whereby Titan will purchase wheels and tires from Carlisle for its distribution outlets.
With this transaction in effect, Titan will now focus on expanding its tire operations in Des Moines, Iowa, Natchez, Mississippi, and Brownsville, Texas. To fully capture the profit potential of LSW wheels and tires for agriculture and construction, Titan will market the assemblies directly to end customers and equipment dealers. Titan has also licensed Carlisle to use the LSW technology for lawn and garden and ATV applications and will receive royalties on all LSW sales"
I think if you check you will find that ITP and Carlisle are part of the same company.
Hope this helps
