YFM200 axle bearings
 

How hard is it to change the rear axle bearings in a 1985 YFM200? Here's a video of what's happening, I assume it's a bearing.

There all done the same on a straight axle chain drive pretty well. Here,s a video on replacing the bearing . The guy had it apart but you get the idea when he shows you how to put it back together.
Might as well change both bearings while you in there.(#9 and #10 below pic.)
Here,s a diagram of your rear axle to help out. Looks like yours axle pulls out from the right side.

It looks like I should replace the bearings on the ring gear too. What do you think? Too bad the rear end from his 89 parts bike is different.

I had a chance to tear it down today and I can't get the axle to come out. I've used penetrating oil and heat and it won't budge. Any ideas what I can try?

I finally got it apart today with a bigger hammer (actually the back side of a big axe). I've read where some people recommend removing the inside seal on the bearing to let the gear oil lubricate them. Is that wise? It doesn't seem to me that much gear oil would actually get out that far.

Id leave all seals where they are... They are there for a reason... Just my 2 cents though.

I think I will. The right side bearing already has the inside seal removed right out of the package anyway.
Also, when I took it apart it had an outer seal on the right side of the housing. There was only a left side seal in the kit so I called the local dealer to order one and there was no listing for it. They figured it must have been a fix the previous owner tried to stop it from leaking when the bearings started going bad. It can't hurt so I'm going to replace it as an added barrier to keep water from getting in. The number on it is 60-75-7 if anyone is interested. I got one for $4 from our local bearing place.

I was mistaken about the size of the seal in my above post. The seal they had in there wasn't even close to the right size. I didn't notice until I tried the new one. :o .

I am also removing the axle to replace bearings. I have it to the point the manual says it should "tap" out but that's not happening. I have been hitting it harder and harder but nothing is happening and I don't want to damage it. Should I use penetrating oil and a bigger hammer? Thanks
