Big Bear 400 carb vent hose missing?

Hello,

I have a 02 Big Bear 400 4x4 that I inherited from a family member. It has a new carb that was put on it before I received it. It seems to be missing a vent hose that attaches to the carb. I am guessing it is a vent hose or vacuum hose of some sort because when the bike is running and you put your finger over the hole in the carb it kill the motor. My question is where does this vacuum line go to? Can I just run a hose from the carb up by the gas tank so that no water or dirt will get in? Here is a pic of the opening in the carb that I am talking about. It is just above the red wire.

Thanks!

Yes it's a vent. I've had the "honor" of working on a few Yamaha atvs and the other brands over the years and have found this same hose missing. It actually has a tapered end, goes to a "T" and branches off downward and upwards. You can either replace it with factory hoses or just run a singe hose to where dirt/water entry won't be a problem. Most customers that brought em in for carb cleans, etc, were in a hurry and didn't want to wait for me to get Yamaha oem parts. If you can make sure you get a hose long enough to make a slight loop that you can zip tie out of the way.Any auto store should have the correct size hose and you can rig it up like the factory if you wish with an added "T" fitting Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

Thanks for the help! I just wanted to make sure that the hoses are just vents and did not run to anything. I am going to go to the part store and pick up some flexible vent tubing and be done with it.
