Default 2012 Big Bear 400 IRS 4x4

Need some help on this one. I am in the market for a used atv, and I found a 2012 Yamaha Big Bear 400 IRS 4x4 2012. From what i have been able to find online (not alot) these machines are supposed to be real reliable. Only thing is it has about 2,200 miles on it. It was traded in by a older man.

I just want an ATV that I can use for trail riding on the weekend, and for when i get my Hunt Permit.

I live in about central Florida, if that makes a different. The machine it self looks good and clean, only thing that concerns me is the amount of mileage it has. The price is $4,790 OTD.

Does it sound good, or should I keep looking? Dont want to get stuck with a money pit.

That's a reliable motor and that mileage would not concern me. Its the same motor as the 348cc that have been around for 25 years but stroked out 7mm to make it a 386cc.

The price is high though for that mileage. I was looking in Michigan last summer and found a 2009 450 Grizzly with only 900 miles for $4800 that was mint but it was sold.

I bought a mint 2007 Grizzly 350 IRS with only 1400 miles for $4000 and that was in rip off Canada where used ATVs cost much more. In the States that ATV would be $3200 tops.

I know its a 350 Grizzly vs a Big Bear but when new the two ATVs cost the same if you click on this link 2009 Yamaha Big Bear 400 IRS 4x4 ATVs there is only 38cc difference and maybe 2hp.
One you have to foot shift and the other is a Automatic gas and go, both are mid size chassis.

Year mean less to me then condition and miles when I buy used.

I sold a 2007 350 Grizzly with new 26" Zilla tires, Warn winch with 3200 miles in Canada and only got $3000 for it and it ran perfect and looked good but I just did not like the SRA and having diff lock like the IRS version does.

You wont be let down by a Yamaha, very reliable engines and transmissions, the belt systems and manual transmissions are the best if not the best in the industry as well as smooth in my opinion. Had a 400 Kodiak and it was bulletproof. The IRS is really nice compared to the straight axle models.. there are more parts to wear/break but don't let that fool you, the reliability and comfort overcome that any day in my books.

I know friends who owned Big Bears, older ones without irs and they loved them. I had a Grizzly 660 and sold it years ago. The Big Bears are fine if you don't want to go very fast, something like a Grizzly can give you power and speed and is still very capable of working hard too. I saw a nice used 2012 Grizzly 550 for sale at a local dealer with less miles for slightly more than this Big Bear. If you're going to spend that much money, I'd get something with a bit more power like a Grizzly 450 or 550.

I agree for $4800 you should get a good used 450 Grizzly or even a 550.
