I believe all RZ's were a powervalve motor... pretty dated technology really...

the banshee and rz350 are the same engines....do you have powervalves....no!
And it's not outdated, what's fmf coming out with?
Actually, you might think the global design is outdated, but it's the same as a std banshee...15 years old!!and still ruling!
I'm just trying to find a way to make the shee faster in a different way. And I'm not sure powervalved RZ existed.

Powervalved RZ's exsist. There where on the RZ motorcycle and you can usally find the engines on ebay. the trans ratios are diff so you have to use your banshe bottom end and have to mount a battery on your shee to control the servo motor that activated the powervalves. If i were you i would get the FMF kit...by the time you get the engine, rebuild it get the battery etc the FMF will be a better kit for alittle more money.

OK. I could finally do some searching.
it's the RD350 and not RZ (my fault).
Anyways, they introduced the YPVS RD350F and N from 1983 in UK, then buil tin brazil
http://www.angelfire.com/ab3/ypvspower/
That's where I got it.
Now I have to find if the lowend has the same mounting than the std RD350...if someone sees where I'm going

OK. So the bottom end isn't similar.
Is the bolt pattern the same? bore and stroke are identical (64/54) (so shouldn't cause any problem). Adding a battery was in my plans anyways, and rickystator does it.
Wouldn't that kick butt?
Why hasn't anyone done this???????
There has to be a problem...except the "findability" of RD350YPVS cylinders...
I'm confused. It looks like an easy way to improve the shee, but no one has done it (or no one says it)

I own a 1985 RZ350, and it definitely has power valves.
You can see what one looks like (mine), at:

scroll to the next to the last picture from the bottom.
Good luck,

leel,
May I ask you a favor (if you still have the bike)?
Could you measure the bolt pattern for the cylinders? I guess there are 4 bolts per cylinder, but what's the distance between them? If they are the same as the banshee (non powervalved RD), that would mean that I could bolt an YPVS top end...or would it?
Thanks

The bolt pattern is the same (i believe) jsut diff gear ratio bein a bike. the cylinders also have larger cooling jackets which is another bonus. I dont think yamaha would change the bolt pattern, i mean that would cost alot more money for R&D. If you can find Kiwi Craigs website he has a lot of info on it including port measure measurements, and pics of the cylinders to see the bigger cooling jackets etc. they one thing you have to worry about is Pipes. on the RZ. the pipes bolt on they dont use springs. i am sure you could have a machine shop machine you a flange to bolt on there then attach the pipes like regular to that.
