A guy I know just put a turbo on his, I have not seen it run yet but Ive heard it eats stock raptors alive. Thats not going into the motor, or is it?

I'm unfamiliar with turbo systems, but it sounds like that would make Raptors into rockets.

When you install a turbo on a quad you usually have to switch cams, go to stronger and biger valve springs, upgrade to a high quality forged piston and many other things that allow the engine to withstand the added power that it will produce, besides that a turbo for a quad can cost anywhere from $3500-5500 depending on options.Turbos on 4-strokes usually dont make near as much power as one on a 2-stroke. I have no doubt that the turbo Raptor will be fast, but a turbo Banshee will make it look like it is slower than Christmas

Don't get me wrong about how much I love my Raptor, but I thought it would hit 80 plus out of the crate. Since that isn't so I'm leaning towards dirtbikes, because they seem to hit 80 mph plus straight out of the crate. That's why I'm looking at the YZF426 models. Anyway from what the turbo cost, I can simply just get the YZF426.

yeah the dirt bikes are a lot faster than 4-wheelers in stock form. the yz426 will do 90mph the honda XR650 will hit triple digits bone stock! compare that to a stock raptor or banshee. eventually, I'm getting a fast dirt bike like the yz426(or the wr426) or even an XR400. they will hit 80mph stock.

Why can't manufacturers make Race versions vs woods bikes like they do with dirtbikes, i.e YZF426 & WR426. I'm the sort of guy that looks at things as; if it isn't broke then don't mess with it. I've always been an atv fan, but atvs are falling pretty short when it comes to pure speed and power. For the price that we pay for atvs, I feel that we're getting screwed without any remorse from the manufacturers. Look-out dirtbike world there's a new kid on the block!!!!

22 inch rears, change sprocket. you'd get about 4-6 mph w/ sprocket change, and about 4-6 w/ tire change size.

why are you so worried about going 80 mph. on an off road vehicle. Maybe you need a street bike.

Juvenile 04-14-2001 09:20 PM

According to the release of the Raptor the speed was suppose to be 5mph or more than the DS650. That it would blow everything else away, so I felt I was buying the fastest atv ever(Quadzilla 500). Well, that's not the case and I feel there was a false advertisement done here. Yes, I was deceived by the Yamaha Reps. who mentioned how fast the Raptor would be. Remember the issue that said; Faster than the YZ426...I was one of those guys that believed them and for that price I thought they would of delivered the goodies. I was wrong...

The question remains........Who in their right mind wants to go that fast on a quad or dirtbike anyway? I think all you guys that want 85+ top speeds are A. braindead and B. in the wrong sport. Go get a crotch rocket and splatter your brains all over the highway. I'm more interested in quickness and handling. That's what really matters offroad. Top speed means nothing unless your racing BAJA! All this my raptor does 85 and my banshee does 100 is a bunch of useless braggart crap! GROW UP!!!!!!!!
