YFM100 Champ Exhaust Packing
#11
Allowing freer flowing exhaust would be my thoughts on increasing performance without the packing and having the baffle cleaned up and open.Attempts to quiet it down may do that, but may end up stifling performance. I've also seen people that cut baffles thinking the same thing on performance only to find that it made them louder and performance was compromised because they do need some sort of back pressure.

Well initial test seemed okay . Didn't notice anything major wrong after starting it and riding it for a bit. The bottom end seems to be a little better, but mid and top end seems lacking a little. However, this is all off the "butt dyno" and memory so we know how that goes. I was able to get it to idle a little better than was previously able to upon adjusting the carb and it definitely sounds quieter.
At any rate, I think I'm sticking with it for now unless someone comes along with some definitive proof that these machines didn't use any packing in the original setup.

A YMF100 should not be down on power! In 1st gear my stock 80cc Moto4's will move some weight around!!!
No packing in muffler, already been established but I found the same thing when I took ours apart and cleaned.
The bolt up front I believe is the drain in case your exhaust gets full of water
I would check compression and timing
It is quite possible the timing chain has stretched and is one tooth out or more

So you've never found any packing in your 80? They're very similar and that's a good clue I should probably take it out of mine and look elsewhere for problems with power as you suggested.

There are two different types of silencer (muffler). The baffle box has baffles with holes in between the inlet and outlet pipe, often the two pipes have a perforated section inside the silencer box but the gasses have to go through some baffle holes between the two pipes. The straight through silencer is just that, one pipe going right through the box with no baffles. This pipe has holes in it too, but the outside of the perforated tube is packed with glass fiber wool. Although the gas does go straight through the pipe, (hence the name), the sound waves are muffled by escaping into the packing.
