check and charge the battery. it sounds like it is not maintaining proper voltage. does this quad have a pullstart? if it does, see if it will pullstart. im betting the battery is shot.
also, make sure that all the connections are good and clean. baking soda and warm water and an old small paintbrush will allow you to clean the terminals. be sure to rinse with tap water when done. baking soda does not react with battery acid very well. using it for spot cleaning corrosion is good. you might even need a small bristled wire brush if the corrision is really bad. then after they are clean and dry, (even on a new battery) coat them with light coat of vaseline. that will all but eliminate oxygen from reaching the contact and causing it to corrode.
there are a few more things you can try, if you do not have a battery charger handy, you can use jumper cables and attach them to a car battery. this will give the quad more than enough power to start. then you can let it run to charge the battery. if the stator is bad, then it wont charge at all and it will eventually use up the voltage in the battery and just stop running.

my lights stay bright even when starting the quad. i mean you can see them pulse with the rotating of the starter, but they never dim out. just because they light up for a few seconds does not always mean the battery is good. with the lights on and attempting to start it your putting a full load on that battery. i can turn my headlights off. im not sure if you can on yours, but im betting it is the battery.
