I bought a 96 big bear 350. It ran fine for the first day or two. Then It would die at an idle and backfire. So after talking to the previous owner I cleaned the carb still didn't work so I purchased a new one and just installed it. It ran for a minute or two then died and will not crank back. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

 

Take the plug out, refit the lead and see if it is sparking. Try a new plug, if it isn't sparking, you have ignition problems, if it is sparking, and won't start with the new plug in, check fuel is getting to the carb. Clean the carb out, if there is water or dirt in it, it is coming from the tank and will keep doing it until you clean the tank out. If you can get it to start again, check the battery voltage when running, if it goes over 15v, the regulator is faulty, and this can overload the CDI.
