Default UPDATE 686 broken hotcam stage 2

messed that up. i thought it was a broken timing chain but after taking it apart we discovered the hotcam stage 2 was broke. it appears where the sproket is placed on the cam is where it broke. not sure why but hotcams said to mail it to them and hopefully they will warranenty it. nothing else seems to be wrong with the motor. anyone else have had this problem or am i the lucky one. ill keep you posted on what hotcam has to say about it.

Default UPDATE 686 broken hotcam stage 2

Not comforting to hear...

I'll be looking for a new camshaft at the end of the winter season when I do my next teardown. Possibly a webcam full race. I'm not a drag racer so the megacycles and craycrafts may not be in my best interest.

My guess is, you'll recieve a new cam and all but the original shipment to them of your broken cam refunded to you. Possibly even your shipment cost. Hotcams has a great customer service. I doubt you'll have any problems.

Default UPDATE 686 broken hotcam stage 2

Same happened to me, busted the ear off the cam and messed some stuff up. Hotcam took about 3 weeks to recieve and send me my new one. They are really good to deal with and they sent me the label to ship it to them, free of cost.

I hear a lot about poeple that don't know how to adjust the cam chain tensioner and it causes the chain to become too tight and snap the chain or the cam.

The cam adjuster is self adjusting. What I have heard is that they get put in too early and then are too tight once the cam is held down in place. I pulled mine in and out three times to make sure it was right and that the marks were still lined up.
