Three screws on the stator have to be removed along with the cable guard at the top left. Best to have an air impact or even better a hand impact(cheap tool) as sometimes these screws are tough to get out.Plus you can strip the heads other wise. You can get these cheap at Harbor Freight,Northern Tool, ebay, local auto houses and this one from amazon for less then 15 bucks. Remember to route the wiring correctly under the guard on the new stator.

Haven't ever seen a stator that screws out,but would seem the bearing may need to be removed or it's holding it snug. Haven't torn an old Big Bear stator out,but just about every other brand I have.May be a simple thing guys like Merryman or other Yamaha guys can help you better than this old man. Some one should come along shortly to help.Hang loose.

Have never done a Yam stator myself, but the trigger coil is usually wired to the stator loom, so also has to come out. My guess is it is just tight, as they are spiggoted onto the case to ensure concentricity. If those other little holes in the centre of the stator are tapped, you could screw something in, and jack it out.
