I am in the middle of replacing my timing chain and replacing my cam with a high performance cam. I removed the timing chain, sprocket, clips, and put the sprocket bolt into the cam but cannot pull it out. I also loosen the two 10mm bolts on the rocker arms. I tried turning the cam in both directions and pulling but it didnt help. I am guessing during the removal process the engine moved from tdc. If this is the case what can i do now?

Keep talking....I've never done anything like this before. Am i suppose to completely remove the two 10mm nuts? I loosen them only and the valves/rocker arms didn't budge.

 

you pull them out completely yes than youll need a slide hammer with a 6mm/1 bold on a slide hammer to pull the rocker shafts out. I don't think you can get the cam out without removing the rockers I might be mistaken though try pulling them 10 mm bolts out loosen up the valve lashing and try pulling it

 

Personally I would pull the head off the machine to do all the work Its just 6 more bolts. And if your putting that cam in you should be putting stiffer springs in your valves anyhow and you should lap them too.

 

Ok i took off the two nuts and the rocker arms now have play in them. I tried pushing down on the valves but they wont move at all. The cam still wont come out. I still dont see how the rockers arms can come out especially the front one. It seems like something is holding it from the side of the head but i dont see any openings

 

It is many years since I did one, but both lobes have to point down, I think there are cam shaped cutouts in the head so they slide through them. However that bearing can be tight in the head. If the sheet metal "keep" for the bearing is removed, the cam should pull out with a slide hammer, or a piece of plate across the side of the head, with the cam centre bolt through it into the cam, as you tighten, it pulls the cam out.

 

You wont be able to move the valves without a valve spring compressor have you tried youtube videos? they are very helpful Im not fallowing what all your saying

 

I took the head off today and then pulled on the cam and it came right off. Now i cannot remove the old bearing. Hammer and screw driver will destroy it and heat will probably ruin the ***** so i will order a new one. I think i am going to leave the stock valves in.

 

I managed to remove the old bearing and put it on my new cam. My next question is this bearing suppose to be flush?(pic) i just tighten down those clips and now the cam wont turn freely. I remember the bearing did not go all the way back but dont know if i went back far enough. Also after this when i tighten the two bolts to the valve when do i stop? When they just touch the valve right?
