Default Yamaha warrior burning oil

It's pretty cold where I'm at and during cold starts it tends to burn a lot of oil on cold start it prolly burns for 15 to 30 secs. After it's warm it doesn't burn oil unless you get on it hard and it's a 94 so please help thanks.

Some Yamahas have the engine breather exiting just above the air filter. It has been known for oil vapour to condense in the breather overnight, run down onto the air filter, and get burnt on startup. Other possibility, worn valve guide seals.

What oil are you running for the cold conditions? 20-50 is too thick for winter unless your storing it in a heated garage and no cold starts. If the smoke stops your valve seals are getting bad.
