Yamaha Raptor 250 Start/Idle inquiry

Hey guys, I just Bought a 2007Yamaha Raptor 250, and on my first trip out, I rode for about an hour, but then as I put it in neutral I felt the idle was a little on the high rpm side so I twisted this screw on the left side of the bike over the motor and it seemed to fix my issue. But soon after the engine died on me and is failing to start. Can someone tell me what this screw does and how I can fix this issue? Yes, that is the slow running adjuster. However that sudden rise in revs, indicates a fault coming on. You haven't just run low on fuel have you? It could be an air leak at the inlet manifold (Yams are prone to them) or just a blocked carb. I know others will disagree, but I go for, remove float bowl, remove jets, one at a time, and bow through them and the holes they came from out with compressed air. check the jets are clean by holding them to the light. Check for water in float bowl, and clean it out too, then re-assemble carb.

Hey,
the idle issue seems to be fixed, but after attempting to ride this weekend, after 10-15 minutes of me riding, the bike would stutter, then die. As soon as the engine heats up, the bike seems to die out. But after coming home it starts up and idle fine when it cools down. Any idea of a fix?

You might have a hanging valve. The motor heats up and the valves expand. check your valve lash.

If this is a new to you bike, I'd start simple. My gut would tell me the previous owner probably adjusted the idle high to keep it from dying at idle. Pull the carb out, take the bowl off and clean out the jets and passages. Make sure the choke isn't stuck on. Good luck!
