1999 Yamaha Bear Tracker runs amazing then dies.

Carbs been replaced, battery, ignition coil, spark plug , C.D.I, added a fuel filter. So here's what happens, it runs amazing, gets rather hot, then dies, usually with a backfire when shifting down. (It dies when I'm in a high gear pretty often) I've found that waiting a varying amount of time allows it be started again. On top of all this, the thing will start very rarely with the push button start, so instead I have to pull start the thing.

Could be a stator, or trigger coil problem, but intermittent electrical problems are the worst to find. First check it isn't overcharging by putting a voltmeter across the battery with engine running, shouldn't go over 14.5v. If that is OK, carry a spare plug, and check if it sparks when the fault comes on, this would tell you if it is an electrical problem.

Sounds like it is running out of fuel. Check your in-tank fuel filter on the fuel shut off valve.

Could be running real lean, this will cause excess heat and stopping of engine. .after cooling off it will run again. Clogged jet or wrong size jet. Could also be electrical. ..you have lots of things to check! Just because a part is new doesn't mean it works correctly or is the right part for you particular engine. This is where the trouble shooting becomes difficult!!

Chase your negative batt cable to the frame ground and insure a good connection with no exhaust melt of the wire

How long has it been since the valves have been adjusted? Having to pull start it is a sign of low compression. Adjust the valves and get compression checked. 90 lb or less you need a rebuild. Also ohm out the stator. Getting warm and quitting is a sign of a week stator also. Personally I would start with the valves though
