As a rule, bikes have a filter on the pickup pipe in the fuel tank. If the bike gives problems of dirt in the carb, many owners fit an in line filter. However, the paper element type tend to "air lock" if you run out of fuel, so if you usually wait until you are on reserve before re-filling, you find it won't start on reserve because fuel doesn't get through the filter.

My owner's manual doesn't say a word about a fuel filter, but it does say the fuel **** can get plugged.
