Front driveshaft

My front driveshaft popped out of place. Well, there still in there a bit. I noticed that the spines on the output to front started coming out. They're not all way out. How do you put them back in yoke. To me, I'm wondering how the did that happen, since yokes on both ends are good and in position. It seems there wouldnt be no give for them to come out.

If we are talking old Big Bear or similar (circa 1990s), the shaft has a circlip (or two) that keeps it in position. Take the circlip(s) out and you can slide the shaft further into one yoke, so popping out of the other. My guess is a circlip has come out of its groove. It will be sat on the shaft.

Well I looked at it and it does have 2 circlips, one on either end. The clip on the output side was out so I pushed it back in its groove.. But it seems that even if I take out the other clip or both, theres still no way for the shaft to move back into place. Even if I took out the clip on the front end of shaft (under the rubber boot), there seems to be no way of pushing it (shaft) back in. i tried pushing shaft backwards, but doesnt want to budge. It seems like the obvious thing to do is push it back in its yoke, but no give. Seems like the front diff yoke assembly is holding it. 1996 big bear.

It must be nearly 10 years since I did one so I'm a bit hazy about it, but I think the UJs are splined into the engine and diff, so they may have slid out a bit after the circlip came off. Once both circlips are in place, the shafts and splines can't move in or out. Make sure the diff mountings are OK, if there is too much distance between engine and diff, there is a reason.

I'm sorry, After a second and (closer) inspection, I found out it was the ujoint at the ouput. Couple c'clips came out and now there just hanging there. Will put a new ujoint in there and see how it goes. It's funny how you can look at it in the dark with a flashlight and see better.
