1988 champ 100 axle
hello, my sons 1988 yfm 100 has a bent axle. I found one new on eBay but the guy is asking $650. Is the 88 yfm 100 the same as the 1989-1994? I have found a few for the newer model year at a more reasonable price. The parts on bike bandit have different part numbers that’s why I’m asking? thanks in advance |
There have been a couple of long posts on here recently about little shaft drive Yam rear ends. Read through this https://atvconnection.com/forums/yam...rear-axle.html towards the end, someone states the 1988 rear axle and crown wheel are one piece, which is probably why it is expensive. A good engineering shop should be able to straighten a bent shaft if it isn't too far out. However there is the possibility of it breaking afterwards, as tiny cracks can cause fatigue failure.

I had a local machine shop straighten a bent axle for me. Cost around $50.

Engine numbers are not Vin numbers. On most Yams left hand lower frame tube in front of footpeg is where they stamp them (if they bother at all, I have come across several Yams with no visible VIN). Dealers ask for a code on a white sticker on the frame, under the seat, seems to tell them all they need to know when you order parts.

10 didgit on the vin is the year.
H-87 j-88 K-98 L-90 M-91 Vin will be on the left side as you sit on the machine. Might be on the bottom frame rail in front of the foot peg or on an up tube on the frame. |
