Bizzare Yamaha Big Bear
Hi all,
i did have an account on here a while back but lost it.
Anyway I'm having a right game with it a quad I brought recently a Yamaha big bear 350 4x2. I've fixed all but one issue. I cannot get it to start on the button. When I got it the ignition key was messed up and the main fuse was blown. I replaced both now I've got power and neutral lights etc. The solenoid has power at BOTH the low power cables. This isn't correct is it? There should be a ground and a cable that goes live when when I push the start button right?
any suggestions of what could be the issue?
Thanks

Check those two leads with a test lamp, if you use a multimeter you can get wrong readings on the negative wire if there is a fault, as current leaks back through other components. Not sure about the Big Bear, but some Yams have insanely complicated lock-out circuits for the starter solenoid, if yours has, you will need a wiring diagram and several hours of study to work it out.

hey D1356,
I saw your request for help and was hoping that this could help you out. This is out of my manual for a 1997 Big Bear.
Most of the wiring diagrams aren't as bad as you'd think. They could be a bit more like a Haynes or Chiltons but its what Yamaha cranked out so...
I cannot speak directly to your individual issue since I've never dealt with it on my ride. However I know that when I do check things using my Fluke I have no issues at all.
Hope this helps bro.
