Whats the Horsepower on a Grizzly and a 2000 Kodiak? Also what is the top speed of the Kodiak?

The Grizzly has about 38 hp stock, I don't know about the Kodiak, and since it has no speedometer nobody knows how fast it is. I would guess probably 40+ mph.

I do know how fast the Kodiak is according to an Eagle GPS, 54.9 MPH gravel road very slight uphill sunny day, low humidity and completely stock bike!

As for the horsepower a computer generated H.P curve based on the 21.26 ftlbs of torque at 5000 rpm you will get about 27.1hp and considering it will easily beat my 425 Magnum pushing about 18hp and that even at top speed the Kodiak seems to be geared to low like there is more engine left in it (this is probably to accomodate larger tires therefore increasing top speed). One individual etkimball under Yamaha Update on 2000 Grizzly and Kodiak states the Kodiak can keep up with the Grizzly at least until 30mph. The people that went to buy either a Kodiak or a Grizzly both purchased a Kodiak as did I. This kodiak is lighter smaller and liquid cooled and will beat the Grizz everywhere except top speed and towing. The Grizz will spin 27" tires with ease and the Kodiak will not if you are doing any serious swamp running you will want to get a motor that will turn 27" tires really easy.

If you are looking for a nice bike and speed is not the big diffrence then you need to look at the Kodiac. Me and a friend went and looked at both the Grizzly and the Kodiac. He really wanted the Grizzly. after looking at the 2 machines he told me to get hem a Kodiac also, so I ordered 2 machines both are going to be beige. I live in Southeast Texas and I ordered the machines out of Mississippi, they should be here in Oct.-Nov. The machines are a close match at slow speed racing from when we have discovered, I sure thought the Grizzly would have outrun the Kodiac, but the power of each machine must be equal for the amount of weight they are carrying. The bikes run the same speed at least up to 30 MPH, we ran out of room. The Kodiac is impressive! --------------Kyle Kimball 2000 Kodiac soon!

ETKIMBALL,
Did you order your Kodiak from a dealership? I seem to remember a DIRT WHEELS article about a MS Yamaha dealership that offered great deals and alot of extras. They also claimed to be willing to ship ATV's anywhere. I too am interested in a Kodiak but I'm waiting for more reviews and that "Great Deal" to come available. Please share your findings. Thanks.

I live in Nova Scotia Canada and I too just bought a 2000 kodiak. Up here in Canada all the 2000 Kodiak have speedo's and trip meter I can get mine up to 90-95 km's and that would be about 55-57 miles an hour but at that speed it is really screaming it will do 80 km or about 45 with out over reving.
