GaryManilow, I know the numbers, FMF has numerous dyno's on their site and all piped and jetted 125's make about 35HP, all make less than 35 stock. Also the dyno's on the Raptor that I have seen aren't less than 35 (usually about 37 or so), but that is indifferent when you take into effect the 200lb difference. But this is what I don't get, according to you it isn't even close between a Raptor and a 125. You make it seem like this guy I was racing was obviously an invalid. However he has been riding an MX style bike for over a year, maybe he's no pro, but neither am I. I'm not sure what he had before the CR125R, but it was some sort of a CR/YZ/KX something. So I'm sure he's familiar with the high revving machine and how it works.

I totally see where you are coming from with 35HP/200lbs and we'll say mine with the mods makes 43HP/400lbs, on paper it shouldn't be close. But why so many stories of Banshee's and Raptors beating 125's?? I understand that some situations can lead to stupid stories such as all the people that have beaten Banshee's with 400EX's. But it is commonly known that a Banshee is faster than a 400EX. But the argument still goes back and forth with the Banshee/Raptor vs. 125.

Also as much as you don't want to believe it, when I raced this 125, we were close off the line through 3rd and as he had it pinned in 5th gear I was walking away from him. It annoys me soooooooo much that you just throw my story aside as "ehhh, the dirtbike rider was $hitty", because I know that wasn't the case.

Last, I have a friend with a 97 RM125 that is modified and he used to race MX. He is very knowledgeable in MX bikes and always claimed that he topped out around 75. So why couldn't this CR125R top out around there?? When I raced this guy He calimed it topped out around 70. I have GPS'd my Raptor at 83 as you can see in my signature, so why couldn't I walk away on top?? I really may have to get out the video camera and go 125 hunting. Maybe 125's are geared to go about 70-75,he did have stock gearing, is that so hard to believe??

660r01,
I will stick to my origional post. And add that I was speaking stock against stock.
If you have your Raptor modded enough to run 83 then I dont doubt you could outrun a stock (or close to stock ) 125 MXr.
And I will still say rider has a LOT to do with it.
And experience dosent have 100% to do with it.
I know people that has rode for years and still cant ride a bike or quad to its full potential.
Also I know people that havent been riding very long and are really good.
And NO I am not bashing the Raptor.
If I could afford one I'd own one.

There's no way that a 125 dirtbike can touch a raptor. I have a trx 250r and my friends alll have bikes most of them are 125's. My friend garrett has a 2002 cr 125 alll moded with all the goodies and my 250 will smoke him alll the way from bottom to top, my other friend has a 2000 kx 250 stock he can beat me in a drag race and on top end were pretty much even.

The only difference between a DRZ400 and a DR400 is that a DRZ400 is street legal so it has more street style tires and the blinkers and all. Its an onroad and offroad bike.

Shut up. If you don't know what your talking about, do everyone a favor and shut up. the DR is the old design dirt bike that was an air cooled piece of crap that made the XR look fast. The DRZ is the new version that is liquid cooled and a much more modern design, as I sated before the DRZ-S is the street legal Dual Sport version of the DRZ.

What's fun is when the guy on the KX 500 comes down the hill trying to figure out how a four stroke quad beat him. He actually asked to look under the seat to see if a nitrous bottle was hidden on the quad[no nitrous] and checked the gas tank for alchohol[just 100 octane].

Just wait untill the nitrous is installed, bikes won't know what to do. LOL

A few of you hit it on the head with the drz....The DR is the older air cooled model of the drz. The DRZ now comes in 3 flavors. DRZ400(kick start only), DRZ400E(electric start/off road only), DRZ400s(dual sport).
The DRZ400s is different than the 400/400E. It has slightly less compression, lower end suspension, milder cams, different carb and pipe, plus it is street legal. Dry weight is around 290#. Still over 100lbs less than any of the big bore sport quads out there. With equal if not more HP.

And the one I raced was a DR...no Z, still moved right along though, I imagine I'd have a tough time with a DRZ.

Just my two cents. I have a slight modified raptor and a Banshee.
pipes, airbox mods.

My friend I ride with also has a piped 97 yz125.
We race all the time across the lakebed. and or track.

In the Banshee, We'd be about dead even, Both of us topped out full speed, he'd very slowly pull away. Getting up to speed, the race could go either way.

In the Raptor, I'd get him off the line, I'd be way in front up to top speed. Then he'd catch and pass me. I'd always get him off the line up to top speed.

Gps clocked::

Raptor = 80.53mph
Banshee= 81.02
yz125= 83.63
friends mod. ds650= 86.2

These are numbers recorded as of last weekend. over a 2 mile straight run. Each unit had the same gps unit on the handlebar. Each ran individually.

Ds650 spanks us both in top speed and acceleration. But then again, He spend an additional 1800 dollars in mods over what I spent on mine.
