i was wondering if i could come across an old WR400 engine and place it in my WARRIOR frame how it would fit and how it would perform. was the WR400 a powerful engine, was it very reliable.

is the WR400 liquid or air-cooled...how hard do you think it would be to rig in a WARRIOR frame. i want an engine that is really reiable and powerful for mainly trail riding and maybe some light racing at area rodoes. i know that the YZF426 is supposed to be just an awsome motor but i herd that it wasn't as reliable in a quad frame,,it was mainly for racing.

i am considering doing something like this if i can't find a good 400EX cheap. i want something different but that will still run with the 400EX and still be as reliable. is the WR400 reliable in a quad frame has anyone herd of anybody doin this?

Do the WR400's have counter balancer's? If not this idea goes down the drain, but if they do here is my view on things.

The WR400 i belive had great low end and a flat top end. It is not as quick as a 426 but still has potential. It is Water cooled and has a smaller overall size than the warrior. You may want to gear down up front if the machine does not seem to have a lot of power. The WR400 engien is very reliable for being a semi-revy bike engine. You can kiss you stock Motor mounts good by allong with your electrical system. Since the WR is a Kick starter and has differant timming your warrior CDI, relays and etc will be worth less. It is a good deal the WR has a stator to run your lights. With time and good soldering getting it to run should be no problem if you have the bikes wiring harness and schematic. You will need to weld new motor mounts for the WR engine. Aligning the 2 Sprokets perpendiclary is the singal most importat step. If you dont a chain will snap every time.

Since the wr400 bike (98+) it's self can be put on the street, this just brought new ideas to me of making a street legal quad. thanks

the wr400/426 is the same motor as the yz400/426, the only difference lies in cam timing, heavier flywheel, and transmission gear ratios.

True, but the YZ Version does not have a lighting coil. That is the dwon saide and it would not have the same torque. Now i want to buy a blown up warrior and a wrecked wr400/426 and call the DMV and ask about putting it on the street.
