I've got a 400 ex with k&n filter and big gun exhaust, bike + pipe = about $4500 and i beat a stock raptor in a straight up drag race, is it really worth the money?

DrunkenNosMonkey Apr 9, 2002 02:16 AM

who knows? maybe the guy that was riding sucks, just wonderin

THEMOOSE Apr 9, 2002 02:19 AM

I have yet to be beat by a 400EX, Piped Shee Or 01 C'Dale (Haven't seen an 02 yet) in 100yrd sand drags.

DrunkenNosMonkey Apr 9, 2002 02:21 AM

with that much crap the only bike that could beat you would be a another raptor or a banshee, im talkin basically stock

Everything I got is bolt on which is what most guys I race have. See my quad on My Web Site I only had it a couple of days before I started putting goodies on it so I never raced it stock & I've got about twice what you do in mine but I'm single & can get away with it. To me it's worth the money to some one else it wouldn't.

Put a CT exhaust kit on the Raptor, and prepare to eat dust. Your ~30 hp 400ex isn't going to keep up with the 40hp+ machine.

Had them both. No contest.

I've only been beat by 1 400. It was supposedly only a 440 but Roostking will vouch it had more to it than the 440 let on. Other than that 1 time Iv'e won every race against a 400 (as I should).

400's are nice if you like eating rocks and sand from the guys in front of you. Honda needs to step up.

Hey Moose, I want to compliment you on your web site and especially your 2002 Sand Draggin' Raptor. I like what you have done to your quad.

As for what so special about a Raptor? Well first off, I think it is an awesome quad. I don't own a Raptor but I plan on getting one soon. I currently own a 400ex. Mods are listed below.

Alright DrunkenNosMonkey, first off with your mods to your 400ex, there is no way that you can beat a stock Raptor. Only a heavily modded 400ex could beat a Raptor. I virtually have the same motor mods done to my 400ex just like you do. A 400ex with a pipe and K&N filter will not take a Raptor in a drag race. However, I will admitt, that a 400ex with a pipe and K&N filter/jet kit will run side-by-side with a Raptor up until about 4th gear. That is when the Raptor will start to pull away. Trust me, it has happened to me repeatitively. Seriously, every time assuming that you get a good start, it is possible to run side-by-side with a Raptor until you hit 4th gear. Then the Raptor will start to pull away. I know, it would be nice to be able to "roach" stock Raptors (sorry Raptor owners, I'm not trying to dog you guys by any means) but I tell you what I know that several guys who I raced that were riding Raptors were kind of pi$$ed with me keeping up with them for so long.

MichaelAZ,

I don't know if I would agree that 400ex's are nice if you like eating rocks and sand from guys in front of you. However, I will admitt that Honda is overdue for a release of a new High-Performance, bigger bore, sport quad.
