I was looking at my cylinder head yesterday while I had my carbs off. I stuck my finger down the carb boot and noticed a big ridge of casting left in the intake, as well as the fact that the boots dont exactly match up to the head. Is this as bad as it seems? It made me wanna rip the head off and send it away for a nice porting job. Also, LRD is the closest big name shop to me and I can drop it off to them in person, anybody have them port a 4 stroke? I dont know if $400ish is worthwhile for the performance gain, any thoughts as to bang for the buck? Can I just go in and file down the casting lines without any negative effect and perhaps a modest gain??

Try to do a search on this topic. Someone else brought up the same thing recently. I can't remeber what it said or I would relay the info.

Match porting your carb boots to the intakes will help by reduceing turbulance.

How far off were yours?
I'm going to match port mine next time I take my carb out to rejet.

The boots seem to have about 1/16th or so lip to them, fairly thick but not an obscene amount. What would you use to clean them up? I was thinking of using a round rasp or?? Any suggestions on how to proceed? I take it I should not even attempt to remove the casting that is sticking up in an obvious ridge?

Since the carb boot is rubber I'd use a sanding drum so as to not take too much out at once.
I don't know about the ridge in the head it might be ok to sand it down but I'd PM harry to see what he thinks first, don't go on what I say because I'm just guessing on that.

Port match carb boots

Its easy airraptor. Just find the page you want to reference. Highlight the address. Right click your mouse and click on copy. Start a reply. At the top of the message window are buttons.
