My buddy has a new 660 Grizzly and is having major problems with water getting into or onto his belt and making the transmission slip. The other day he got into some mud and the mud got into the cluthches and the belt and had to be taken apart and cleaned. Does any body know how to fix this problem? Why does this happen to a 10,000 dollar machine. Has Yamaha addressed the problem?

He needs to keep his tranny snorkles above the waterline. Those are located under the front & rear racks respectively.

If he is like the majority that have water problems, he had dunked the front plastic completely under and swallowed a mouthfull. Kind of like trying to breath underwater. The automatics are sealed fairly good, but if you go in massive deep water & mud (over the plastic), you will submerge the intake. I wouldn't matter if it was a $7000 Grizzly or a $3000 Trailblazer. You have to remember that you have a belt drive transmission with a vent that is exposed at a certain height, and you have to watch where you take it. I've had no problems ever with mine, but I don't play submarine with it either. Of course it is a small limitation you could say, but I never did this with any of my manual transmission quads either. I get no joy riding in water over the seat.

the snorkles are higher than most think they are. they sit right against the front and rear plastic in the middle on both. i happened to dive my grizzly into puddles alot, and have dipped my front more than once. i ended up just snorkling the belt intake and exhaust. if i ever get off my a$$ i will take pictures to show what i did.
