clamp on k&n's
#3
I read somewhere else in this forum that the clamp ons won't work on the Raptor because of the carbs being too close together. Not sure though, so you might want to check with some of the other Raptor owners on this forum with more experience than me. Later Xtreme

You can't get K&Ns to clamp onto the carbs, they are too close together. I ordered two K&Ns with the 10 degree angled neck thinking I could turn them just right to make them fit, they wouldn't. So I already had the Pro Design foam filter on in my stock air box, I just cut the air box off of the flange in the front and put the filters on it. It works alot better now. You could do this alot easier by using a thin peice of metal, that bolts to the holes where the pegs in the air box go, and then welding two lips on it. I think that the rear end of the velocity stacks coming off the carbs are 2.5" so that is the size lips to weld to it. Then order your K&Ns with the same size opening as the lip and there you have it. This way, in theroy acutaly works better than on the carbs because using the velocity stacks speeds up the air before it hits the carbs. If you do this check to make sure the size of the opening on the velocity stacks first, I might be wrong on that.

The 1/2" lines control the slides. I've had my carbs off and checked them out. You can blow into the line and the slide will raise. Kinda weird how it even works, but it does. The little line that runs between the carbs is just the bowel vents.
Surly there is some CV carb guru on here that can shed some light as how these slides operate. I would think that the 1/2" lines would operate off of the vacuum since they are connected to the inlet side of the air intake.
