No the stock raptor does not "smoke" the stock Z400, but the raptor does beat it by a respectable margin. This is not speculation, I've seen it personally. In a 300' drag the raptor takes the z400 by about a bike and a half. Which it should considering the displacement difference. I will say this much though (and remember I'm a raptor man through and through) the Z400 is a class A machine and for $5,200.00 theres nothing that compares. I was at a drag race comp. (300') 2 weeks ago and personally whitnessed stock Z400s running down piped 400exs. I was impressed! AS far as comparing it to the Raptor, thats a battle you won't win and rightfully so.

dam who cares you have 260cc more than us z guys so you will always win unless your raptor is stock and ours is modified. my piped and jetting Z can beat stock raptors and easily pulls piped, jetting 400ex's. its alot of fun to ride and so easy to handle thats why i like it. it pulls my fat **** around great and does it pretty fast . ride what you like and have fun. when or if suzuki/kawi comes out with a quad based on the kawi 650 then we can have this discussion over and over and over and over lol.

I'd have to say anyone who has ridden a Raptor knows how de-tuned they really are. My guess is Yamaha is trying to keep the Raptor and the Banshee close to equal in a drag race. A simply head-pipe and silencer change can eaily get you 14 more HP on a Raptor. One of the magazines had a new pipe for the Z400 dynoed and I think it gained only about 2HP, similar to what you'll get on a 400ex. I've ridden with both machines and like both, but the Raptor has much, much more potential as a 660cc machine should.

<< I can honestly say that my Raptor is not very impressive in stock form compared to the competition. For a 660cc engine it doesn't kill the competition like I expected. I guess I thought atvs would be the same as sportbikes. I had a 01 GSX-R750 that would eat 600cc bikes like it should (150cc difference). >>

Really? How bad did you beat a 600 on your literbike, because these machines are VERY rider sensitive. I've seen guys run 10s at the trackwith 100% stock off the showroom floor CBR600s while lesser riders couldn't equal that on new GSXR1000s. Even with equally great riders, they're only about a half second apart. I'd say ATVs and sportbikes are very similiar in performance to engine size ratios because all of the big bore machines are just a little bit faster than the smaller ones until the race course gets tighter and requires quicker handling.

Sportbikes performance is just like that of ATVs. It has nothing to do with displacement.

How about this:

2002 Suzuki GSX750 Katana.....VS........2002 Suzuki GSXR750

No comparison. The Katana wouldn't even be close.

Take a GSXR1000 and smoke Hayabusa's at every 1/4 mile track you can find.
Run them past that though and the Hayabusa leaves it.

The ATV similarity here is the Cannondale 440s. There isn't a quad made by any manufacturer in that engine size range that even comes close to it in the engine department...Yet, it also has no problem running with the Raptor and DS in a 300' drag race. Run the Cannondale past that point and it's like the GSXR100 VS Hayabusa race.

Everything is measured by engine's output....not the engine's size.
