Lowering/Widening a Raptor? Can it be done on a Budjet?
#1
I have read quite a few posts about "tricks" to make a Raptor handle better. I would like to lower the seat hight, and make it handle better, without having to buy a swingarm, axle, a-arms, and shocks. I like to jump, so I can't loose any suspension travel.
Some say to put Banshee shocks on a Raptor, will this work? I have also heard about flipping rims, flipping shock linkages, etc, etc.
The question is, what is the cheapest way to make it less tippy, and handle better, and still be able to be a jumper?
I will also be getting new tires, If you have any info on which ofset to buy, for front, and rear rims, please tell me.
Maybe buying used is the right idea. Any used parts, anybody?

Go to My Image Station Album & look at the pics of my wheel spacers.
They are a cheap way to widen your Raptor.
I don't get big air but eraptoid does & he has wheel spacers too.
On the front, if you widen it you will put more stress on the front shocks.
Unless you find some cheap used shocks from a Shee aftermarkets aren't much more expensive.

I have my rims flipped. They work ok for the majority of what I do, but I also have shocks valved to compensate for the width. The only problem I have is I can't keep tie rod ends in it. I have went through about three complete sets, but you will notice I still have them flipped around untill I can get some arms.

Banshee shocks will fit a Raptor but why would you want to make your suspension worse. Banshee shocks are known to be not the greatest. I will back up what the Moose said about flipping the linkage [Bad idea] do not do this unless you want a new frame..
Shee stock shock travel is
9.1 for the front
8.7 for the rear

Get yourself some Durablue 2 1/2" easy fit wheel spacers about $90.00 that will widen the rear 5". The when you buy new tires get offset front wheels. I have the douglas 1" offset and my front end is aprox 47 1/2" wide. With the durablues the rear is 49" wide. This is a cheap and easy way to widen the raptor and the improvment is great. You still have the suspension to deal with but, 400+ dollars for shocks is a bit spendy to me.

AdamsBadDS650- I dont belive the problem is with the spacers not holding up, I think the axle bends because of the added leverage. I have heard the stories go both ways. Some say the axle will bend, others have used spacers with no probs. I decided to swap out the axle with a wider one. Let some of the jumper's with axle spacers tell you how they've held up.
