I work at a car auction down here, new and used cars...more than two thousand cars come and go from here every week. If you really knew what happened to your car before you had it. You would start buying them as they came off the train..... and even then you never knew who drove it on the train..... lol

bandit390 is right. This happens ALOT more than what you guys think. It even happens in this industry.

However, we get these same types of complaints from the sportbike guys and while they fall in the same category as high dollar car owners, they come in with a problem of running poor at over 90mph.......but raise hell when they hear that your mechanic had it on the freeway at just over 100mph.

Cry babies.

I have had plenty of Mustangs and they are meant to be driven hard. If they don't want their car being "abused" by driving that fast........they should have bought a V6 model

My .02

I work at an auto plant and every car we build comes off the line and straight to the dyno and from there to the test track with bumps and curves. Don't think for a minute that your sweet new car has been pampered since new. They don't cut them any slack cause if something is wrong they will probably catch it.

What a complete retard.. I read most of it

Owner takes a new 03 cobra mustang in for service

Ford tech takes car out for test drive and does 140mph

Ford tech promptly posts on a mustang enthusiasts forum about his joyride (see below)

MAN IT WAS WAY COOL, DROVE A '03 COBRA VERT TODAY THAT WAS IN THE SHOP, ME AND ANOTHER TECH TOOK IT OUT AND DROVE IT, DROVE HER HARD, 6 SPEED TRANNY, WE HIT 140 MPH REAL QUICK, TALK ABOUT POWER. NOT THAT WE DO IT HERE ALL THE TIME, BUT I JUST HAD TO RUN IT, IT WAS CALLING MY NAME... THE POWER IT HAS IN UNREAL, YOU JUST NEED TO GET OUT AND TEST DRIVE ONE TODAY, BY THE WAY, THE CUSTOMER'S COMPLAINT WAS LACK OF POWER AND POOR GAS MILEAGE, WHAT A CROCK... NEEDLESS TO SAY, IT IS OWNED BY A FEMALE, SHE EVEN SAID IT WAS DYNOED AT A SHOP AND THEY TOLD HER THAT THE CONVERTORS WERE TOO HOT AND THE FUEL TRIM WAS WAY OFF. I HOOKED IT UP TO THE COMPUTER, FUEL TRIM WAS NORMAL, CAT TEMP WAS OK, NO CODES, AND IT RAN GREAT. GO FIGURE.. OH YEAH, SHE EVEN TOLD THE SERVICE WRITER TO MAKE SURE THAT NO "PUNK" DRIVES HER CAR, WELL SINCE I AM THE MUSTANG SPECIALIST HERE AT THE DEALER, I GUESS I AM "THE PUNK", ALL THE MORE TO DRIVE HER '03 COBRA VERT AND SEE WHAT ITS GOT.. HEHE HOPE SHE DIDNT HAVE A HIDDEN CAMERA IN THAT CAR...... GET THIS, HER PLATES SAY "VNMS 03"
Along comes a member of the forum with this post (see below)

Well , stangman96 you drove the wrong cobra , i know the lady that owns that cobra and she has seen this posting , i think all hell is going to break lose in your world!!!!!
I can more than understand wanting to drive it , i think every guy would have wanted to , but thats a 35000.00 car , thats a lot of money for some other guy to be ragging on your car ,, If i was her I would make sure you get fired ! Next time you do something like this just keep it to your-self or at least get a diff screen name that does not show your in san antonio !!!
the dude ended up getting fired, what a tool.

Well,
Knowsalot, ABOUT YOUR CAR. I dont agree. Its not your car to drive hard, its not Your quad to Ride hard. I guess I will not be bringing any bikes to Knowsalots shop. What goes from a simple weld jobs turn into a high speed stress test, "just to make sure the weld is good"

I cant believe that you would advocate doing this to someones property. But if you do, you may end up like this guy, FIRED.... In case you didnt read the whole thread through.

Heheheh.....reminds me of one of my old war stories.

Back in my college days, somewhere in some city in the deep south, a buddy of mine and I spotted a Pontiac Firebird Formula on a dealer's lot just begging for a test drive. Closer inspectrion revealed that it contained the very potent combination of a 5.7 liter V8 and a six speed transmission. Mmmmmm....

The car was a recent trade in, but it was still within its model year. We just had to try her out. A few minutes talking to the salesman got us the keys and a few minutes of pure joy.

Somewhere on an open country road, that little ol' Firebird reached more than 140mph under my foot and then more than 150mph under my friend's foot. We tested the braking (very good, by the way) and acceleration (even better than the braking). It was hard to get an accurate 0-60 time because the rear wheels seemed to get to 60 mph a good bit before the rest of the car did.

When we drove the car back, we sneaked it onto the lot and left before the salesman could return. We didn't really want to explain why the brakes were smoking and why the aroma of burnt clutch filled the air. I'm sure he fully understood though when he returned to get his keys.

Yes, it was good fun, and the only time I ever pulled that one....uh, well I forgot about the Porsche - but that's another story.

It's one thing though, to be a potential customer test driving a car, ATV, or other means of motorized transportation and quite another to be a dealer or mechanic that takes advantage of their customers. I don't mind so much the knowledge that the car (or ATV) was driven hard BEFORE it was purchased, but after the sale when it actually belongs to someone, that's quite inconsiderate.

Remember the scene in the movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" when the parking valets take the vintage Ferrari for a little spin? Right or wrong, there's that little part of us that always wants to push the envelope with someone else's rocket.

Blame it on testosterone.
