Pipe's & Cams
I have recently gotten a new Yoshi pipe and now am asking the question "what cam goes with this pipe?". This is one subject I haven't seen covered here. Who has the best "cam and pipe" combo? I mean these two mods are supose to compliment each other and this is how you get the most power when they work together. Does anybody sell a pipe & cam package or are we suppose to slap any old pipe with any old cam. One guy could say yeah, this cam really rips but he may have a different pipe and you won't get the same results. I think when I start looking at cams I'll compare the grinds to match my Yoshi pipe and if they don't have one I'll have to get a custom grind. Does anybody have the spec's on the different cams out there?

You really should have bought a Trinity pipe and stage 2 cam with springs. Its probably the best combo kit IMO.

There wasn't much on there site just a bunch of smoke and mirrors.
What about port work too. One would have to get a grind for port work as well. Who can build a custom grind cam to match my pipe & port work? |
Pipe's & Cams
I think Web cam does, but I dont think matching them makes that much difference. Im sure a top end cam and a top end pipe would compliment each other, but other than that how much more exact can you get?

Try doing a search for cam specs, they were all posted recently.

If you want to do it right, match your cam to your portwork and compression. The best thing to do is port your head and send it to a place with a flowbench. A flowbench can tell at what amount of valve lift is your port flowing the most. Many heads flow better with lets say .5" of lift instead of .550". The flowbench numbers will let a cam grinder know how big the lobe needs to be. The compression and weight of the bike will let him find the duration needed. After you build your engine, match the pipe to it. I have never heard of trying to match the cam and exhaust. Since you are probably not looking to spend the time and money to have a perfect race engine, I would just buy a cam that is mild unless you are bumping compression.

JakalWarrior, you've got a point, how close do I really need it.
AlkyBurninX, thanks for the insight. Got any idea how much it would cost to have a builder port and give cam specs? You said that you haven't seen matching of cam and exhaust but don't they all go hand in hand. You wouldn't want a high end pipe with a low end cam, right? Anyway when I pull the head I would want to port, polish, cam and up the compression. |

ahh, Trinity Kits come with a webcam. Send your head to Trinity, have them grind the big valves and port/polish at the same time.

Give a call to LRD and they got it down on the flowbench dail and cam what they would recommend.
In about a yr or so I will be talking my rappy to LRD and have them do the engine mod. |
