Banshee engine guru's inside please...engine rebuild time!!
Well, its time to rebuild the motor in my Banshee. I have it at a local shop, and they have given me a price of roughly $1195 to do a 65hp 370cc. This includes a CoolHead, V-Force cage and Carbon Fiber reeds, 18cc domes, all machine work, labor, and pretty much everything top of line.
Is this a good deal? Can anyone in the Phx area point me to a shop?? I am open for suggestions at this point. I am not in a hurry to get the engine done as I have my Pred. I know I want my motor to be reliable, run on pump gas or a mix of pump/race. I ride in the desert 90% of the time, and dunes the other 10%. Of course my Banshee myte not see too much desert action... What are everyone's thoughts? |

Well lets see.
Coolhead is $250 Vforce reeds and cage w/ reeds $220 Pistons Kit $140-160 with pin bearings Bore the cylinders is about $50 per hole Dont know what the labor would be, keep an eye on the compression. Too high and you'll be running race gas instead. I live in TX and run 21CC domes with a little cut of the cylinders and it has abot 170 lbs. |

Tirefryer- I was at glamis last week. There were 3 banshees in camp. 2 of them were 420's done by Ken's cycle tech in gilbert AZ. Man i was impressed with the 420's. I have always thought that i had a fast rappy. I had never been blown away by a shee until those 2 passed me up olds hill. I do not know the cost but they seemed to be great duners as well as hill shooters. Roostking on here had 1 of them. Shoot him a pm. I now that he was happy with the work done. I am buying a shee shortly and now plan on a 420 motor. I have been watching banshees for over a year now trying to sort out what i want when the day comes. Good luck

Thanks man. I will definitely check into the 420. I read RoostKing's thoughts on his new motor, and that is basically the setup I am looking for. Tomorrow I will be checking out a few more shops in town, and I will make my decision then.

A 420 is sweet and fast, but requires MORE money. Sleeving, you have I think only 3 bores, those were some of the things that I looked at. Port work makes a world of difference in a Banshee, one of the best mods I've had done yet. Long rod setup is nice also, good torque. Lightened flywheel is a good mod too and it usually doesn't cost much to have done. The only problem you may get into with big bores and depending on how much port work you do, will be wether the pipes will breathe well enough for the custom work you have done. Once someone goes into doing that much performance work they generally run a better breathing pipe setup.

I am really happy with my setup. I also that the flywheel lightened, head worked, timing advance plate(set at +5) and of course the 420, which is made by getting a 7 mm stroker crank and boring the jugs to 67 mm, basically installing Blaster pistons. Go for it! Oh yea, Im running CPi inframe pipes. I got the flow!

They must not have any fast Banshees in Texas if you've never been blown away by a Banshee.

I have previously owned a 99 Banshee. That doesn't sound like a bad deal. I would have it bored to about .020 or .040 over. No more than that If you have it bored anymore than that when the motor ever blows it is junk. I know somebody that has it bored .080 over and it is on the edge. It sounds nice but it is a mess. I definitly like all the things you have picked out. I might up the domes to a 19 or 20cc. You can get away with that on pump gas or mixing a little. I would check into a prodesign intake and a boost bottle. They offer a lot more hp for the dollar. I would also check into a better crankshaft and stroking the motor with a longer rod. Just some thoughts to run by you.
