Drags: What's your launching techniques?

Well, I need to find a better launch technique, so I figured I would see what works for everyone else. I usually launch about 1/2 throttle in 2nd gear with 14/40 gearing, and 20in tires, but my tires just spin. I al looking for some aggressive looking 22in tires to help my traction problem. If I get some really good traction tires, like Pro-wedges on .125 rims, and since I only weigh like 115lbs, could I still get away with 14/40 gearing?

about 1/2 throttle in first gear then slip the clutch just enough to keep the front wheels down whilst I lean over the handle bars. Prolly not good for your clutch but it keeps me on the edge of traction and wheelie for maximum acceleration. I dont believe in second gear launches, if you cant get a good one in first gear then make your gearing taller JMO. A whole lot of other people swear by second gear launches though.

airraptor, your nuts that would kill me with my stock swingarm.

Adam have you ever seen Pro Wedges in action? They are not a real high grip tire. They allow alot of wheel speed off the line, thus getting faster starts. They might not be the best tire for a 4 stroke, I have obly seen them on Banshees.

I am one that normally launches in second, if I can. It all depends on traction where I start. If its 100% traction I might try 1st but any other time I normaly use second.

Then what tires are good for loose dirt? Fast Trekkers? Turf Tamers?

Razors/Holeshots.

Start in 2nd. Gas as much as you can and feather the clutch to keep the RPMs up until the bike is rolling well, then take her to the limit in each gear as you go faster.

I want a real light tire, but good traction. Do they make a 22in Holeshot XC, or XCT that is just 2 ply?

second gear full throttle set on the tank and let the clutch go!! As monentum moves you backwards go with it let your body weight bring on the traction!!! and vipers grove lightened!!

What are Vipers? Who makes them? Surely you not talking about the round profile trail looking tires are you?

Adam Pro Wedges are the aboslute best banshee drag tire I have seen for dirt, weather they work on the Raptor I don't know. If you rode the Raptor like a Banshee, lots of wheel spin, then they probably would work well. But you could probably get better times by trying to keep traction and use the torque of the motor. These are just my opinons so... I happen to like the stock tires as far as dragging is concerned.

i did not ask if it were your ds or your raptor but yes ward those are the monsters im talking about. i have hole shots and several other pairs and the vipers are the only ones i can do a banhsee on. but you don't round them out i have seen some people do that but if you put them on the right width rim they are awesome and you do have to have them shaved to save on wait they are very heavy stock weight!!

AZSAND what 60' time do you get?

adamsbadDS650 i take off in frist(normally) sit normal on the bike and hope it doesn't come up. 2nd gear is the tricky one. (its bad and letting you look at the stars when you click it into 2nd.)
