My 01 locked the tranny up 1yr ago
I had the warr. and they fixed it with
the 01 gears agian.(no one knew yet the 02 stuff worked)
but my dealer told me WHEN THEY BRAKE AGIAN WHICH THEY WILL!!!!!!
he would fix it agian with the 02 stuff as long as my warr. is still good
I have a 1 1/2 yrs left on the warr. so I have just been riding
the **** out of it with the only worry about going over the

Free-play is basically slack in the clutch cable when the lever is not touched. This makes sure the clutch is fully engaged with hands-off. When you begin to pull in the clutch lever this "free-play" or slack is taken up then you actually begin to pull on the clutch. Basically, make sure you can pull the clutch lever in a little bit before it actually begins moving the clutch arm on the engine case. Also, your clutch could be too loose, - if you pull the clutch lever in all the way and rev the motor, the bike shouldnt move - if it does it's too loose.
Adjust the cable tension at the perch on the bars.

-or- just take it to the dealer and ask them to "check the clutch free-play".....the service guys should be able to tell ya if it's OK simply by grabbing the clutch.

Redrocker, I hope you filed with the CPSC about your going over the handlebars.

If Yam would at least pay 1/2 for parts & or labor that would be a gesture in the right direction!

I'll except that, But Yamaha will never do it on their own. They need to be pushed. The CPSC needs to know about everyones failures. I wonder how many people have not filed? There are far more Raptor owners that do not frequent Internet forums than there are that do.

Wshrdskin, so tell us how you like the new 2002 gearing, does it feel smoother, do they make riding easier? Do you feel a need to change your sprocket sizes now?
