Raptor Cylinder Honing / Rings....
Since I have the entire motor torn down (replacing the tranny) I figured it would be convienient to change the piston rings. I've heard that the cylinder should be honed when ya put in new rings. Will the standard, original size rings work or will the honing make the bore bigger-requiring larger rings ?? The parts lists show 3 different sizes. The motor has never been apart before so it's all stock.
Thanks

all the honing do is clean up the cylinder wall to smooth out the rough marks. If you are going to put new rings then I would hone the cylinder. If you are going to do yourself be careful, if not sure just take to the shop and they will do it for you w/o the headache if you screw up.

honing wont really clean up any rough spots on the cylinder, its primarily for just removing the glaze left from the previous piston rings. It actually roughs up the cylinder with "cross hatching".
The new rings will seat easier since the cylinder will wear with them in - more or less "cutting" them to fit tightly against the cylinder wall. New rings in a cylinder thats unhoned will float for a while and burn a little oil until they eventually seat.
