I ride in the Oregon Dunes. Mom and Step dad have 400 ex's with sand skates, K&N; one stock one with white brothers pipe. I've got a 03 Banshee; when it was stock I raced my brother, me on the shee him on the 400ex. It was no contest I blew him away. However there isn't a hill out in the dunes that I would not try to climb on the 400, they'll climb anything out there. Can't speak for woods riding and or MX Trails.
Riding through the dunes people always had trouble keeping up with me when I was on the 400, until we hit a wide open area then the 400 lagged behind, but trails, and technical riding the 400 does just fine and has plenty 'o' power. If I was to get a 4 stroke I'd go 400ex. But don't get it if you expect to win races against banshees and raptors, but they're awesome jumping and trail ridinig.

Knabet, with a big bore kit, carb, pipe, rev kit and head work w/right set up, you might , No you will be suprised at how well they run. I watch them beat shees (not mine) almost everytime I am out at Pismo.
But we are also talking about $3500-$4000 in mods to do that. Put that kind of money in a shee and watch out!
