You would figure that gears would have to get out of the hole quicker than a belt. I think the kawasaki setup is better than what my Grizzly has, but hate the way mine takes off. Don't know what Kawasaki was thinking with that V-force. They had a hell of an idea going, and then some boner decided to make it this grand touring kind of thing with the lame belt drive.

I have the KFX ... my friend has the Mod'ed Rappy .....
The KFX is quicker ....
The Rappy is Faster ....
from 0-55 or so .. all KFX
55 and up .... the Rappy reels me back in and passes me.
Tomorrow I will install dual exhaust on the KFX ... hopes that
helps with the top in power.
Just my observation and two cents

Put your stock tires of off your p650 on your 700 and try the rappy again. you should see a big difference in top end with the taller tires, 26 inch vs. 22 inch.
the stock tires of the p650 are really light so you shouldn't have to change clutch weights.
I know the p650 stock tires suck, but just as a test to see how much speed is gained. As a guess, I would say 8-10 mph.

Shotgun ...... I hadn't thought about that ..... but you are right it would increase the
top speed ...... but concerned that it might kill the bottom end ????
I do have the P650 tires and rims in the barn ...... would only take a few minutes to
try that out.

You've got it completely backwards. An auto that can keep the front end down will pull a holeshot on anything, no feathering the clutch just hit the throttle and hold on. Check out the new Dirtwheels, they have a picture of a race with Banshees, Raptors, 250R's and a bunch of other quads and the Kawi pulled the holeshot on all of them.
