ID'ing a '98 Warrior

Hey,

alright, i went and looked at a '98 Warrior today. the guy is asking $1500 and it seems to be in pretty good shape. i didn't think to ask a lot of questions while i was there though.

so how do i know for sure it's a '98 model? some people tell me 4wheelers have a title and then the same number of people tell me that don't. what's the deal? would there be any markings on the quad to ID it as a '98? it had the red/gray color scheme, which came out in '96 right? would that color scheme still be an option in '98?

also, there's a good chance i might go buy this quad tomorrow. is there anything in particular i should look out for on this year model?

thanks,
bigmac

there is a series of numbers and letters down by the left foot peg on the actual frame tubing. i got mine without a title. i just got a sales receipt from the seller.

the proper way to id it is to look at the vehicle identification number and count 8 digits from the end. If it is a W its a 98 if its a X its a 99, Y 00, 1 a 01, ect.

Hey,

actually the '98 part was my mistake. it's actually a '97, or so he told me. i counted 8 letters back, and the letter is a "T". so hopefully that means it's a '97.

i ended up buying it for $1400. pretty good deal i think. i've discovered a few things he didn't tell me, but nothing too costly yet. basically i've had to get completely new rear brakes. new pads/rotor/seals for the caliper. replaced the oil drain bolt cause the old one put up a hard fight on the way out. new spark plug, and adjusted the jetting. so overall i've got like $1700 in to it and it runs good. certainly not mint condition but definitely rideable and dependable so far. plus i've had a chance to some hands-on experience working on my new quad. so i'm pretty happy with it.

later,
bigmac
