Which ATV for a 13 Year Old
when i was 13 my dad bought a rancher 350 for himself...thats what i learned on..then we got a bayou 250. a 90 would waste your money, he'd outgrow it fast. look at the utility/sport 250's....alot of them are the same thing just different plastics, except the new yamaha and suzuki

Everyone else is right , the 90 would be a waste of money. I wouldn't go with an auto either. My brother is 13 , 110lbs and ride a kfx400 like its nothing, but he really should be riding a 250, or 300ex. I think a 250 is what your looking for, just make sure he understands how shifting works, and respects the quad. and plus the 250 is comfortable for the average sized adult.

I started out on a 230 Quadsport when I was 14. The Honda/Suzuki 250's are great places for a kid of that age to start out on. A 90 is going to be way to small, so unless you have a younger kid to pass it down to, I would just skip this class altogether. If your son is mature and responsible, then the new Raptor 250 is a great machine. Most boys that age can learn the clutch in a day and he would appreciate the lower weight and better handling of the Rappie. Whatever you get, make sure to get him into a course that will teach him the basics. You may have to find one that provides the machines or borrow one though, as many would only let him participate if he was on an "age appropriate" atv.

By 13, most kids have the coordination and physical size to handle most vehicles. The ASI offers guidelines for selection of off road vehicles. Here is a link to their site. ASI

I'm 13 and I have a honda rancher 350 but recon is a good starting atv I used to have one but I sold it to get my 350 rancher and my 250 recon was the most fun Four wheeler I have ever rode I sold it because I wanted more power and I can do about every thing I could do on my recon on my rancher but it just feels like the smaller atvs were the most fun so I also suggest the recon for a good starter utility atv
