Seems like getting to be a common problem on the Ranger 425 and Ranger/Sportsman 500 engines. I'd pull the flywheel cover and check for any mud/dirt around the pick up coil face and around the raised portion of the outer flywheel that triggers it.Item #14 on the parts break down. Dirt Cheap Yamaha & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse Plus you can check resistance on the White and White/Red pick up coil wires that terminate into the cdi.Should be around 97 ohms. Plus "lightly" tapping the pick up coil bracket inward a tad toward the flywheel has helped some on regaining spark. If this doesn't help could be a stator or cdi problem. ebay has several pdf and hard copies of the service manual for electrical check outs.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Polaris-Ranger-425-2X4-2004-PDF-UTV-Utility-Service-Shop-Manual-Repair-on-DVD-/281464064656?pt=Motors_Manuals_Literature&hash=item418890ca90&vxp=mtr
