Have a 2012 Ram 1500 4x4 Crew Cab. Average highway mileage is between 16-18 depending upon terrain and weather. When I tow, even my utility trailer with the bikes on it I drop to about 13mpg.

'11 Tundra CrewMax Platinum (includes towing package) 5.7L 4x4 - 16MPG on winter blend fuel driving 2 hours from my house to my parents (mostly 35-50MPH stuff).

If I pull the enclosed snowmobile trailer with two sleds on it (combined weight of about 1600 lbs), I get about 14MPG.

If I hook up the 18' equipment trailer and pull that (empty), I get about 13MPG. If I have the tractor on there, it will drop to about 10.

In the winter months, gas is blended with "something" to make it more volatile so that starting isn't hindered and it burns more completely in the cold weather we have here in New England. The down side is that your mileage drops off.

In the summer, I can pull off about 19MPG on the highway (sometimes I can get better, depends on the terrain). In the winter, I get 16-17 if I'm lucky.

Winter blend for diesel is more for anti-gel of the fuel in the severe cold temps, and I believe they also have to add a cetane boost to it as a result (not sure on that, though). So, in some ways, there are some similarities in terms of what it does to our mileage.

thats pretty impressive mileage from a gasser, i had an 07 tundra with the 5.7 and never saw anything north of 17mpg. yes, i know i drive hard and that doesnt help.

Diesel, i add my owne cetane booster every few tanks, love the diesel, but i dont think the added cost out weighs what the new gassers are pulling in economy.

The 07 was the first year of the current generation. It should get mileage comparable to what I get, unless you weren't equipped the same way as mine (I have the tow package with the 4.11 rear end and it's 4x4). That 6-speed tranny does a lot to help the mileage, but the area where I live is a little hilly. If I get into MA and run the turnpike, that's where I'll get my best mileage with the cruise set at about 70-ish.

Understood... I have an '11 (less than thrilled with it, but it will pull a house off its foundation). I was only saying that the 07 was the first year for the current gen, and that's what gen I have.
