01 raptor 660 or 00 400ex
I was thinking about getting my first quad I'm 17 about 200lbs and have ridden a quad a long time ago but it was auto. I have been looking at either a 2001 raptor 660 or a 2000 400 ex. I would be mainly using it for trail riding (mud, dirt, rocks here and there, crossing small cricks)with the occasional ride in snow in the winter. Which one would you recommend why or why not?
Thank you, Steven

My vote is for the 400EX, they are very dependable, and a very fun, easy machine to ride and handle. The suspension and power are great and they are plentiful, and parts are plentiful.
While I am a big fan of Raptors and owned an '03 660 they are a handful to ride compared to a 400EX, especially for a beginner. Suspension and power are good but they sit up higher than a 400EX and are not planted to the ground as good as a 400EX is. Plus the '01 660 Raptors had a weak transmission, but they have probably all been fixed by now if they were gonna fail.
I would start with the 400 now and if you wanna upgrade later and really want a Raptor, save up and get a Raptor 700 instead of the 660, it's a MUCH better quad. You may never outgrow the 400, I know plenty of grown men who ride 400EX's and love them!
