Ask the Editors: Let There be (Head)Light
It’s definitely possible but considering the stock ignition and stator weren’t designed to accommodate the electrical load of a headlight, your best bet would be to simply pick up a universal LED kit from a company like Rigid.
You’ll find handlebar clamp mounts and the systems include their own complete wiring (separate from the machine’s own electrical system). Of course these also include their own battery as running an LED directly off the motor will destroy the light.
Rigid in fact offers a 1680-lumen universal LED popular with the very-similar ATV70 that draws a mere 2.17 amps (half the current of a standard car parking light). In other words battery life will be excellent but since the battery isn’t connected to an alternator, do keep in mind that it will have to be recharged using an automotive battery charger after the riding is done.
