Ask The Editors: Did the 2015s Arrive Early?
It certainly seems that way of late but if you stop and think about it for a moment, the reason for this becomes clear. The Internet has changed the speed in which we share information. A few short years ago, manufacturers would get their press kits out to the media in June but because of the massive delay (called “lead time”) in the print industry, the photos and specs of the new models wouldn’t appear until the September issue generally.
These days when the kits are released to the world at large via the manufacturer’s own site and PR network, there is virtually no delay in our ability to help spread the word. So in short, while it appears product cycle release dates are being sped up, what we are witnessing is in fact one of the many changes of a world with the ability to share information instantaneously.
