Ask the Editors: How Big Can I Bore?
Turning a 250 into a 280.

Dear ATVC: I have a Suzuki Ozark 250 that I want to overbore. There is a kit made by Four Stroke Tech to get it up to 273cc. The stock engine displacement is 246cc, cylinder bore is 66.090mm, piston diameter is 65.88mm and the engine stroke is 71.7901mm. So to make the the cylinder 273cc, how much would I have to bore into the cylinder? Any help would be appreciated. Ford460

Despite our best efforts, we were unable to track down the Four Stroke Tech kits you mention though we have heard they existed in the past.

That being said, we assume their kit may have come with an aftermarket cylinder or resleeve service as the mechanics we talk to say that about as far as they would even consider pushing the bore on the 246cc Ozark’s stock cylinder would be .40 over; which would come in far below the type of displacement bump you’re seeking.

The alternative would be to keep an eye on eBay for an elusive big bore kit to appear. This would give you the option to simply purchase it then and there or, at the very least, spell out the bore specification.
